We have deployed more than 1800+ Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points throughout our organization. This was the solution we used to replace access points from a different vendor as we shifted to Cisco platform. These models are being used both indoor and outdoor locations and as well as for high density areas.

These APs are really well suited for medium to large enterprise organization as the management of these devices are through a single management console.

We created a wireless network for users out in the field, out at the office to have stability for users to connect to internal applications, out to internet, basically just to get a better connection for and better user experience.
  • It make users able to roam the office without having to worry about cables and also it makes people more productive by not just having to be wired in from that perspective and have meetings wherever they want in the office from that perspective, but also just production in many different areas where people use this for security reasons and stuff like that.
  • Room for improvement would be less time to program the hardware from the beginning so that way we can actually deploy faster instead of waiting on for it to sync and get the configuration updates and stuff like that.
Well, it's really suited everywhere. I mean, gas station has it, offices have it, refineries. Every business department is going to use wireless one way or the other. So it's really useful in many aspect of the business. As far as not where not to use it, I can't really think of any because I mean wireless is everybody's daily life. I mean, you have your cell phone and people don't want to use their data so they get on WIFI.

Well, this is actually to cover the WIFI area. So we use this product to cover the WIFI as a part of the WIFI's infrastructure. So that's the wireless access points to give access to the users as well as the clinical devices.
  • So this product actually helps in healthcare facilities where we have a wireless, we call this WOW monitors. It's Wireless On Wheels. So we use those monitors to the patient's room to room. So in that case, rather than connecting it to wire, so it really helps us to connect through the WIFI and access the patients whenever we be needed.
  • Well, so right now I can't see any shortcomings or concept of this product as long as it actually gives us a flawless throughput through our wireless devices. So we don't find any issues with that so far.
Well suited in the sense that we use wireless on wheels devices a lot, having devices to monitor the patient's room to room. So this is a very useful, actually, it helps us to transmit the data through the wireless infrastructure. And I don't see, it's less because the WIFI is everywhere, it's very vital part of our life, so I can't say any shortcoming, so it's less useful

We use it for refreshes, replacing older model end of life access points. We're replacing them with these newer 9100 series access points so they can be supported with the latest code and WIFI 6 performance and all that. We are also putting them in our new building standups that don't have existing WIFI, so we're putting them in new builds as well.
  • It's good for high density deployments that we have. In areas where they have a lot of users and they all want to be on WIFI, so people could have two phones, their laptop and they all want to be in a congregated area, it's really good for handling that traffic compared to our older APs.
  • They could definitely download their code faster. When we first get them out of the box and join them on the network, it takes probably 20, 30 minutes per access point to download the new code from the wireless controller and then reboot itself and then come back online.
  • When you're configuring it on the controller, if you want to switch access point groups, we have them broken out per site. Every time you add it to one of those groups, it also has to reboot. That's like downtime for us. That could be improved, I think.
It's good for new builds. If you have a new building or new area by itself, it would be great for that. It's not so great, which we've run into this. If you try to mix it with older model or different model APs that are running a different protocol, WIFI protocol, they call it the salt and pepper deployment. You'll have clients and devices that are roaming between the two different model APs and it's really not good for connectivity, so I wouldn't really recommend it. If you're not going to replace all the APs in a specific area with the 9100, then I wouldn't recommend it for that.

We have Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points 9166 and they are great. They have some great AI integration that helps with client roaming, and authentication. They are very quick and offer multiple deployment choices. The great thing is you have access to deploy these within the Meraki cloud, which has lots of benefits in itself, or you can deploy them with a controller based system. These APs are at the forefront of enterprise wireless, and I would suggest them to anyone who needs a serious wireless infrastructure.

They are great in small to large deployments. They may be a bit overkill (the 9166's specifically) for home offices though. I would say that they should be used for deployments that are 2000sq ft or larger/ more than 30 active clients at a time.

Currently being deployed through 3 buildings by the whole organization. We also use them for guests who are not in the organization. For internal they allow access to internal/external apps for laptop users. For guests, they allow guests to get internet resources during their time at the company.
  • In recent years they have been reliable in saying connected to controller.
  • Have had good failover to other controllers.
  • Roaming has been good.
  • Some Aironet have had problems keeping config on reloads in the past.
  • In the past there has been strange hold timer issues.
I think in a large campus wide deployment they have been effective in providing coverage to 5000+ users at a given time within the same. I haven't personally seen other types of scenarios based on companies current direction of expansion.

We use 120 Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points. We use Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points for IT environments in more than 20 different locations. In some locations, we use 2 - 4 APs in one flour. We use a network controller and Cisco Catalyst Center. We use Cisco ISE for managing security. We have several SSID. We use 2.4Gh and 5GHz radio frequency.

We use Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points in IT and OT networks. Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points is reliable. With Cisco ISE, the security is not the issue. Some Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points work in extreme environments and they work as expected. Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points are really easy to mount. The problems that we have are in locations where there are a lot of other WiFi networks and end user is far from Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points and there.

We use them for our customers’ environment to help them create a good wi-if network within every building of their organization and also on every floor with great RF profiles and all the works within a C9800 controller. We are running hundreds of Cisco access points . We are using it to provide reliable access to sdwan and internet services. We are utilizing following models: 9115, 9120, 3802, 2802 in flexconnect mode. Using local switching and local authentication in any location. We are supporting sites with Meraki wifi solutions.

We are missing flexibility on Meraki APs.- sniffing, packet capturing, debugging. Catalyst 9800-cl controller support in Meraki Dashboard would be great, hope Cisco will do it soon!

Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points are well suited for most applications as they scale very well and can be configured to work in a lot of different scenarios. However they are quite costly so they may not be suited for all business purposes. But they do perform and deliver and rarely cause issues.

We have about 1300 Cisco APs in use across our sites. They are providing network access to mobile devices, laptops, Wi-Fi phones and IoT devices. We are also looking to leverage the technology for asset tracking.

They provide good coverage, but improvements can be made in placement and configuration.

We are deploying Cisco Access Points in a lot of office areas and in production. Production areas depending on industrial machines it is difficult to deploy and need some special antenna design. Less appropriate for temporary deployments. For stadions and high-density deployment, we recommend Cisco as well. We have good experience with Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points.
