We use it as a backup internet option for our retail environment, so that way if the primary internet connection goes down the MG 2020 unit kicks over for cellular access so that way the retail environment can still do their sales.
  • It's fantastic for being in the Meraki dashboard and actually looking at quality of signal. I can look at up times, down times, ease of use when it comes to if I would have to reboot the MG 21E in case it does have a problem.
  • Overall reliability: since we switched to the MG 21 E, we've rarely have a problem with it when it comes to the cellular performance going down.
  • Maybe the built-in DHCP options on it could probably be tweaked a little bit because we have had issues where if we reboot our MX unit and the MG 21E tries to hand out DHCP addresses, which has caused an issue. So that's one thing that I would say could probably use some tweaking.
Definitely well-suited for a backup for a retail environment. We have had to use it as a primary internet connection when our fiber wasn't brought in in time and we had no issues with it running. It was able to withstand the temporary load on it until we were able to get the circuit provided.

We migrated from standalone LTE gateways to Cisco Meraki MGs. Yes, they are much more expensive, but having the LTE/5G connection in the dashboard with all the statistics is invaluable for troubleshooting. Powering the device over PoE instead of a dedicated power supply simplifies the setup and cleans up the place where the device is used.
  • In sight into the cellular connection
  • Dashboard integration, single pane of glass
  • SIM card failover
  • The routing integration is done manually, although the dashboard knows everything about the Cisco Meraki MG and MX of the same network. This could be easier and more Meraki-like.
The main benefit is the single pane of glass of having the Cisco Meraki MG and the Meraki firewall in one dashboard network. The Cisco Meraki MG could be used with other vendors, but there the Cisco Meraki MG is just an expensive LTE/5G gateway.

In the past we have Cisco Meraki MG for backup connections to fixed line services to provide resilience to stores. We have also used Cisco Meraki MG for pop up stores speeding up the ability to open a shop for a short period of time, negating the need for expensive fixed line contracts as the shop is usually only open for 1-2 months.
  • Ease of deployment
  • Ease of management
  • Easy to deploy in the field
  • When using multi carrier Sims, roaming between carriers requires a reboot. This needs improving to provide a fully resilient cell service.
Cisco Meraki MG is well suited for rapid deployment scenarios where service needs to be provided quickly. The Cisco Meraki MG is not suited in environments where mobile reception is poor unless, you are able to mount the Cisco Meraki MG externally and run ethernet back to your network.

We are using Cisco Meraki MG devices in our company as backup ISP connection. We are using various models with 4G/5G module: MG21E-WW, MG41, MG51. Currently, we have at least 20 devices and we are deploying new devices still. This is a very good solution. They are working very stable. During failover test, we observed that Meraki MG devices meet our requirements. Meraki cloud dashboard it's really good tool to manage Meraki devices. Management it's simply and clear.

We utilize it as some failover for client sites. This had saved us when there was a full fiber cut at one client site.
  • Cellular reception
  • Wireless WAN
  • Failover
  • Monitoring integrations
  • Retuning the [Cisco] Meraki [MG] UI
This is very well suited for internet CRITICAL applications like Fintech or any form of public services. I do think that these units can be a bit pricy for what they do, but it is worth it 100% when it saves you from a major outage.

We use Cisco Meraki MG in our organization to deploy, manage, and monitor our several access points deployed at various locations. It gives us access to see every single access point deployed and also gives us the ability to see which ones aren't working properly. Cisco makes it easy to manage our devices all in one place.
  • All in one
  • Simplified
  • User Friendly
  • License by device
  • Improved map feature would be good
  • More detailed analytics
For our environment, we have several substations miles apart that have Meraki APs that need to be monitored for when they go down. We use those APs for the line crew to access the necessary data to do their work. Meraki Management portal lets us see which devices are online and which ones are offline.

Managing the connections between devices and their destinations, and ensuring security while prioritizing traffic has always been challenging. In traditional environments, network administrators must be versed on many different products, using different operating systems, different portals, and no true overarching management layer. Meraki takes the complexity away by moving all the various components of a network to one portal, with a single place to apply applications and group or user policies for all your infrastructure. Using virtual stacking (up to 10,000 ports) projects like rolling out VLANS, updating STP, or applying QoS policies become a couple of clicks and are applied to the selected devices instantly. Enabling Mesh VPN between sites is now a checkbox, eliminating the cumbersome process of setting up IPSEC tunnels between each device. Roll-out of new sites is plug and play. Meraki allows for configuration in transit, giving the IT team the ability to drop ship equipment and have local hands plug it in. The equipment is then connected to the network, grabs DHCP, connects to the Meraki cloud, receives configurations, and is ready for use.
  • Ease of Management
  • Meraki Security
  • Some hidden features
  • You can't set up complicated firewall rules
Identifying and resolving network issues requires a combination of data collection, analysis, isolation of problems, and a human with an advanced network skillset. Meraki's reporting and troubleshooting tools aim to simplify this process by providing complete visibility into the route paths and physical layout of equipment. The software includes embedded tools to remotely ping, blink LEDs, measure throughput, conduct a traceroute, cycling of ports, WOL, cable testing, remote packet captures, a learned MAC address table, and an easily understood ARP table. Meraki's love of analytics and tools to assist in improving performance is rapidly outpacing the industry with the soon-to-be-released Meraki Insights, designed to give customers visibility into performance issues beyond your own network with visibility into ISP and application-specific performance. For wireless customers, the new Meraki Wireless Health provides detailed information on wireless networks, identifying poor-performing access points and providing context, so administrators can easily and consistently improve performance. Identifying and resolving network troubles is what keeps us up at night; Meraki lets us sleep easily.

We use Cisco Meraki MG cellular gateway along with our existing SDWAN to provide quick switchover to LTE in case of WAN failure. Most of the company was using legacy wifi APs from other vendors and over time the performance decreased drastically causing outages. This is when we evaluated Meraki and the decision to deploy was quick. Currently the entire WIfi uses Cisco Meraki MG as backup uplink
  • Manage LTE connections
  • Provide AI insights on user usage patterns
  • Provide connectivity details
  • Provide efficient roaming
  • AI features could be more, like a feature to pcap without intervention when issue happens
  • A refresh in UI is welcome
  • Add more rugged models
Cisco Meraki MG smplifies the route to wireless WAN connectivity and makes cellular a really good uplink option for many networks. MG21 can be used best as gateway to cellular networks, by converting LTE signal from a cellular provider to an ethernet handoff, which can be used as an internet uplink for a variety of use-cases.

Cisco Meraki MG helps you remain connected all the time. It uses a technology of a cloud managed WAN (Wide Area Network) designed to seamlessly provide a transfer of Cellular signals (LTE) to your ethernet for regular or connectivity in times of a failure of regular ethernet connectivity. It more or less acts like a backup for your internet connectivity for your enterprise. The great thing about it is that it is seamless. You will not face any delay or interruption. It helped our company remain connected even in times of internet connectivity failure thus helping our business run continuosly with no downtime.
  • Seamless changeover to LTE (Cellulor network) in times of failure of ethernet connectivity in your company.
  • Continuous backup for ethernet. No Downtime experienced.
  • It provides you with ability to manage all devices in your network.
  • Next generation Firewall, Traffic Shaper and Internet Gateway that is centrally managed on web.
  • Meraki Products are not configured to operate offline.
  • Had some issues with filtering features.
  • Advanced features need to be easy to access for users. Should be more user friendly.
Some of the scenarious where it is well suited:
1. If you want a non stop internet connectivity for yourself or your enterprise, then it is a great idea to use Cisco Meraki MG.
2. It uses a technology of cloud managed WAN and transposes cellulor (LTE) data signals through router for ethernet connectivity. So it is great on technology.
3. If you want a seamless internet connectivity when there is a regular ethernet connectivity failure, then it is very suitable.

Scenarious where it is less appropriate:
1. Cisco Meraki MG does not work offline. So no use if you are trying to use it without internet connectivity.

We operate in different cities and the cellular coverage range varies geographically. Once we have the signal in the router, is easy to connect devices & repeaters to that router hub, but getting the signal itself is challenging. The geographical position of the server rooms vary across our premises, this is where the Meraki MG got us covered. All connected devices run seamlessly as the primary connection is strong.
  • Cellular to Wired Ethernet Conversion
  • No Signal Loss during Routing or Repeating
  • Works With LTE
  • Doesn't use full 5G bands
  • Free trial is very limited on options.
  • Doesn't support more than 2 gateway connections.
If you are planning to bring internet to a kiosk, trade show, or to the basement where you have your server room or any other location where coaxial cables won't help you, you can always depend upon Meraki MG By Cisco. It will get you connected to the network with ease and without any cables on the way.

The biggest advantage is being able to operate from the portal, there is no need to "punch" the port on the WAN side for monitoring. No matter how much you limit the destination IP of the connection, the act of opening the port on the WAN side is extremely worrisome. It's a little scary to think that it should be the gateway to data leaks and attacks, but we don't have to worry at all and can handle it with Cisco Meraki MG.
  • Updates can be run from the portal, which eliminates a lot of sensitive parts.
  • From managing configuration information to checking current status and managing software releases, you can do it all with a single portal.
  • If you use Cisco Meraki MG, you don't want to manage it by connecting to network devices with SSH, etc.
  • A DHCP configuration would be fine, but a fixed IP configuration seems to require a twist in the configuration.
  • If possible, it's just a subscription. With no initials and just a subscription, I think it's a "feature product" that may convince the superior even if the price is a bit high.
  • I am happy with wireless and all in one, but I feel that the management screen is old, so I think it is better to renew it a bit more.
When I have had to work online in a hurry, I have been able to connect to the WAN immediately, so I have been able to do so without stopping work. It is now useful as a BCP measure because it is now possible to back up file servers between the bases. It is very easy to manage from the Portal. FW management so far is made easier.

Cisco Meraki MG is an excellent partner for those who want to use LTE as a regular uplink ethernet for an Enterprise. It is easy to use and can be part of your organization's plan to have more HA and more redundant. At work, we use it to add a backup link.
  • Easy to use
  • Easy to configure
  • Easy to operate with other uplinks
  • If a PIN is detected and requires configuration, the cellular gateway will stop here until resolved.
  • Troubleshooting could be more intuitive.
  • You always need to check the proper signal of the SIM in order for MG can function. Any additional alert could be fine.
Cisco Meraki MG could be used in those scenarios when you need a backup WAN uplink. Ideal for remote sites where Service Providers have no easy connections or no connections like Oil Industrial sites, Manufacturing areas, etc, etc. Cisco Meraki MG is less appropriate in those scenarios where you have already more than two Service Providers, however, you can also use it!

Implement this Cisco Meraki MG solution in mobile ATMs for the withdrawal of money in different points of the coast. I also implemented it for bank branches with secondary links to lower the costs of traditional MPLS or fiber links which are much more expensive. It is a good solution different from what the traditional market offers as the last mile.
  • LTE connectivity
  • More efficient alternative to WAN options
  • Failover connectivity
  • The only downside / minor inconvenience is that you can only have 1 SIM per device
  • High cost
These small, rugged devices can prove useful in a wide variety of use cases. For instance: Deploy network access in a location that lacks wired Internet links Configuring the MG21 as a Failover Device for Critical Connections, in Case the Primary Ethernet Connection Fails
