What is Cisco vEdge Routers?

Cisco’s SD-WAN vEdge Routers are routing components of the architecture that delivers the essential WAN, security and multi-cloud capability of the Cisco SD-WAN solution. Actually, I use vEdge Routers as proof of concept for customers. They need technology that automatically has high availability in terms of WAN links and I saw that vEdge has this kind of technology to fulfill customers' requirements.
  • 3G/4G connectivity that can be used as a backup link.
  • Simple deployment and configuration.
  • Easy to manage using Web GUI.
  • Need to be familiarized with the configuration.
  • Need more time to be hands on with the GUI.
Cisco vEdge Routers can be useful for customers who have many branches and need more than one WAN link. It is also useful for customers who want to reduce the cost that is associated with MPLS utilization. SDWAN technology is for customers who need it all. Although other vendors have the same product or technology, Cisco is still better because of the support from their expert engineers.
  • 3G/4G connectivity.
  • Security features.
  • Simple configuration via Web GUI.
  • It reduces the cost of MPLS.
  • Although it has advanced technology, it is cheaper than the traditional router.
  • Easy to manage with only 1 person.

Cisco vEdge Router (vEdge-5000 specifically) allows us a safe and secure connection to our WAN provider. It takes care of the problems of security on an outside connection coming into your secure network. Helps us keep the perimeter of our network just as safe as our internally managed locations inside.
  • Nice design to fit in well with your modern network cabinet.
  • Plethora of available ports and port types.
  • Cutting edge security when paired with Cisco umbrella.
  • A more robust high availability link would be nice.
  • More competitive pricing structure.
  • Faster ethernet ports on the lower end vEdge lineup.
What an easy thing to recommend to almost anyone asking. If you have a remote site with a WAN, or just your main site connecting to the WAN. You want that perimeter to be safe and sound. You can rest pretty easy with Cisco watching your edges. You get the best of all their security expertise in a nice package.
  • Keeping hackers and malicious code out of your network is a major positive.
  • We've been able to reduce security incidents, thus saving us time.
  • ROI is high on this product, as you can reduce the amount of devices at a site.
