We use it to manage enterprise and implementation projects and are working towards leveraging it for resource management
  • setting up views
  • easy UI
  • configuration
  • Resource management
  • Reporting and dashboards
  • Financials
  • Integrations with other reporting tools like PowerBI
  • Roadmaps
Although the tool has a lot of flexibility as it relates to configuration, views, etc. other departments struggle with how to use it to manage backlogs, roadmaps, etc. I think there might be better tools within the Planview family of products that offer more options to support all departments across an organization.

We are utilizing Planview AdaptiveWork as our primary Resource Management tool. The organization never previously had a way to resource demand plan or forecast, as well as in real time track variance versus planned capacity. They also could not see the entire organization's capacity at one glance. It is our one stop shop for all the above now. Adding Pipelined projects into the system allows us to resource plan ahead of time, especially gaining insights to recruitment needs, instead of just in time resourcing, which causes delays in the hiring needs.
  • Many ways to acclimate to the system; documentation, videos, community, and contacts.
  • Planview provides scalable customization options tailored to the unique needs of each business unit or department. Easily add or remove fields in the system. As the admin, it was easy to learn how to configure.
  • Offers flexibility to adapt to existing systems and align with organizational workflows and processes. There are multiple ways to customize each part of the system to meet our needs.
  • As a resource management tool, managing capacity has been very difficult and even to this day I cannot seem to manage variating FTEs. Using a calendar to calculate capacity is unmanageable. We have many on staff who are not a full 1.0 employees, and we cannot get a resolution how to adjust in the system.
  • Adding multiple tasks, in bulk, cannot be done at a user level which is very resource management 101. I should be able to go to the user and add/delete projects or change allocations. This makes it very difficult when 1 user is being added to 10s of projects at one time.
  • The reporting is not intuitive. Generating customized reporting is available, but it is very hard to get something that should be easy, such as capacity in % each month by user, by program/project/or group. That is one example.
  • It is difficult to manage tasks that have assignments over 25 resources as the screen limits view to 25. This requires a lot of time to tab and refresh each tab if a resource was added or removed (recalculating demand).
Planview AdaptiveWork should look into more resource management focused solutions since it is such a hot item in the market right now for organizational needs.

We mainly use the system to track time and expenses and to some extent project time management. It allows us to keep accurate records of how much time/money was spent on a project, but do not always use the full extent of the product.
  • Expense Tracking
  • Time Sheet Tracking
  • Historical Records of each project
  • When an end date is changed, the start date changes to the end date even when the start date was set at the time of project setup.
  • Inability to clean up customer lists even if customers have been inactive for a number of years.
  • Pulling some reporting information is hard to pull because it goes by name or project number assigned. It does not always feel streamlined.
It is less appropriate for quick jobs that only take a couple of hours.

We use Planview AdaptiveWork as a complete end to end project management software. Beginning with product requests, through to the creation of individual projects, to the daily management and progression of tasks through to project completion. Really useful to be able to tag relevant documentation to projects and have everything in one place.
  • Allowing multiple team members to simultaneously work on a project with live updating
  • Good uptime
  • Massively customisable
  • Project cases get muddled or confused sometimes while running through milestones. Resulting in completion statuses at half-mast. Can be confusing
  • The mobile app is almost unusable. Would really like to see that completely revamped
Gave examples in previous questions.

At Princess Cruise Lines, we use AdaptiveWork for user/vendor management, financial processing, timekeeping, and project management. The Time Entry feature has saved the company a lot of headaches when billing clients for the projects they are working on. Before, they would send an invoice without a record of hours worked, so this has helped out immensely.
  • Reporting.
  • Project Management,
  • Being able to customize the tool to make it fit our business needs.
  • We've had technical issues this year with the Global Search functionality. It only worked for specific users, but this has been resolved.
I've been an AdaptiveWork (Clarizen) admin for the past 14 years, so I've seen much improvement since I started working with the product. I'm very happy we can utilize the hybrid mode by using the cards, I think this was long overdue but it works very well.

I work in a Corporate Real Estate group and we use Planview AdaptiveWork to manage all of our real estate projects. All resources have access to the system to update progress on tasks and keep track of dates, and progress on the projects. Discussion boards are used to communicate back and forth on projects and we also have many configurations on our back-end to create automation for approvals, population of data in the property cards, etc.
  • Flexibility in how we as an organization want to track our projects/data.
  • Ability to put together reports for any data point in the system/and create charts as needed for that data.
  • Capacity Planning tracking.
  • When it comes to reports, it would be great if there was an easy way to roll-up the results instead of having to create configurations to summarize data.
  • The consultant experience has not been great when it comes to more advanced needs for configurations. The consultants are in a different timezone which limits hours to work together and it seems hours are spent trying to determine what the requirement is and when the initial thought is that the configuration is possible, it may result in not being able to assist.
  • Charts in the reports section are not able to be exported
  • When pulling a report together, you need to make sure you pull from the right "item" or level. If you decide you need data that resides in another "item" or level, you need to re-do the report from the beginning.
  • Because the system is so configurable and I imagine different clients use the system differently, when you need something automated in your account, where you need to pull a consultant or SME in, the person doesn't necessarily understand your configurations and how things work so they are unable to give recommendations on how to solve problems that don't impact other configurations you already have set up in the system.
  • Templates cannot be updated unless they are pulled into a project and then re-saved. In the templates module, you are not able to open a template and edit to re-save. Therefore, making updates to a template can be very time consuming having to find a project to use to pull it in, make updates, re-save and then pull out. It would be great if the templates module allowed you to edit the templates and re-save.
If you have a need for tracking projects and keeping the teams on the same page with the status and updates within a project, Planview AdaptiveWork works well. I do like how discussion posts automatically go to folks email addresses and every note is stored within the project. I also like the flexibility of reporting and configurations that can be made. Depending on how you use the system and what your needs are, the configurations can sometimes impact each other and it's not automatically known what the impacts will be unless you read through each configuration that has to do with your problem. It would be great if the configurations were more user-friendly instead of easy for people with configurations backgrounds. It's not always apparent which formula you should use for what you need - and the formula options require some training or some experience in coding to understand immediately. If the configurations could be "dumbed down" a bit and then warnings for impacts to other configurations before being saved, that would be helpful.

We use Planview AdaptiveWork as our Project Management and Services delivery tool. It provides robust project planning, management, resource, and planning functionality. As an added plus, it is highly adaptable and easy to maintain.
  • Project Management
  • Resource Planning

Our organization uses Planview AdaptiveWork for our every cross-departmental project in our company. The key term here being the cross-departmental piece. The real benefit of Planview AdaptiveWork is that it makes it seamless to bridge the gap between so many different groups of users. The way the modules are able to interact with each other, the connections you can build between users, groups and permissions, and the organization of data makes Planview AdaptiveWork the best solution for us to be able to both offer a high level of personalization while maintaining standardization. We use Planview AdaptiveWork not only for internal projects, but, external projects as well. It's flexibility to be able to invite outside users and provide a high level of visibility makes it ideal to collaborate with project resources both inside and outside of our organization. Before we implemented Planview AdaptiveWork, we found ourselves using a different project management tool for each department, or, even worse, no tool at all, cobbling together a mess of spreadsheets, emails, direct messages, and one-off conversations that made gathering all the knowledge we needed for the project nearly impossible. Centralizing all of this inside of Planview AdaptiveWork had a huge impact on the way we conduct our project management processes and has massively benefited our efficiency and profitability thanks to a reduced amount of project rework and time lost finding information.
  • Provides an enterprise-level solution that offers scalability like no other tool
  • Clearly defines permissions and individual workspaces that can be custom-tailored to the work style of different departments and team members
  • Provides flexibility in the organization of data and the ability to access it
  • Supplies us with exceptional reporting capabilities that give us the power to look at projects from the highest to the lowest levels of granularity
  • Planview AdaptiveWork's ability to create relations between work estimates, resources, and time is one of its strengths but also one of its drawbacks. The average user is a little less considerate of the way these things interact with each and the automatic way in which Planview AdaptiveWork will affect one or the other can occasionally create a confusing scenario if the user is unaware of how changing one will affect the other
Planview AdaptiveWork is by far the most flexible project management tool we've ever used. The ability to customize and create solutions to fit our needs is beyond capable. We often find ourselves creating new workflows that make automatic actions in parts of a project, or send notifications, or add users, or update statuses... the list of things goes on and on. Essentially the ability to create an IF statement on pretty much EVERYTHING you can do in the system is unparalleled. If you can imagine it, you can achieve it.

I use AdaptiveWork for project planning and tracking. Features that I use most are timeline estimation and resources allocation. The actual work vs. estimated work functions help me adjust timelines when needed and improve panning for future projects. I am also able to look at my groups actual work performed vs. time that is allocated to current project to plan resource usage.
  • Estimate realistic timelines
  • Properly allocate the available resources
  • Break down projects into manageable tasks
  • Track actual time spent on a project and tasks within it
  • More intuitive user interface
  • Simpler project creation
  • Tutorials for seldom performed tasks
It is well suited to product improvement projects with relatively defined goals and simpler implementation methods. Harder to predict and implement longer term projects which may change in scope over time. A more flexible framework for less defined project goals would be helpful. Great for well defined projects with specific tasks and goals.

AdaptiveWork is used to manage enterprise-level projects and initiatives that are cross-team and cross-LOB in nature. It helps to keep everyone on the same page with respect to what projects are currently underway and which are planned for the future.
  • Has a visually appealing UI that is easy to learn and navigate
  • Allows for deep customization, enabling organizations to modify it for their own unique needs
  • Integrates well with third party tools (ie. Jira) as well as other Planview products
  • Project ownership is difficult to manage when it is split between multiple teams/users
  • Resource management modules are difficult to utilize due to relatively limited functionality.
  • When multiple users are editing the same project, it can sometimes be difficult to not overwrite one another
AdaptiveWork is an excellent solution for a company where projects often span multiple teams and functions. It does a great job at keeping everyone on the same page on project timelines & milestones, as well as overall project goals.

We recently transitioned back to using Planview AdaptiveWork. Over the last year we have been using a different tool provided by a consulting company while we were in the early staged of a potential merger. Now that the merger is official we are beginning to track our projects again in Planview AdaptiveWork. I am the administrator for this platform. We are in the processes of loading all our projects into Planview AdaptiveWork and will be utilizing reporting, dashboards, project plans. We want to be able to present robust efficient and effective reporting for the organization. Capacity planning and agile place are two main focus points for us at this time.
  • robust product that seems to be all inclusive
  • enhancing the platform
  • keeping up with technology
  • advanced integration with several partners
  • In the hybrid cards version there is not a way to use the resource filed as a sort/card lane, it would be nice to be able to use this field to view tasks assigned to a resource all in one column/lane.
  • I haven't used the Risk and Issues portion much, but plan to. It seems odd to me that I have to click out to a new section to track these items for a project.
  • I'd like to see the meeting notes enhanced a bit so that you can copy the last agenda forward with unfinished tasks and or action items
Planview AdaptiveWork is a robust project management tool, the sky is the limit. There are numerous integrations point, endless reporting, we are just scratching the surface on where we will go with this. The levels of reporting by project, program and portfolio are amazing. It is great to have a tool that is a one stop shop and not have to leverage several software solutions to accomplish project tracking, reporting, capacity planning and with the flexibility of using waterfall vs. agile methodologies. The only problem is I don't have enough time to learn all of these amazing features fast enough.

We use Planview AdaptiveWork to support the Project Portfolio Management lifecycle at our organization. The software has tackled our pain points around project intake and prioritization, consistent project management framework, and resource management. We are still growing users, but we leverage the tool for project, program, and portfolio management. By storing all of our projects in a centralized system, we're able to make data-driven decisions via reporting and capacity planning. Roadmaps and status reports have been big hits with our stakeholders as well!
  • Resource Capacity Planning has been a game changer for us to forecast resource availability as new priorities arise
  • Roadmaps are very easy to create at the project, program, or portfolio level
  • Customization has allowed us to create unique items for teams and align the system with our brand
  • Dashboards are cumbersome to build because you have to build reports for each widget and they are visually very limited (you can't choose colors, layouts are limited, etc.)
  • Out of box features better support bottom up resource planning rather than top down (allocations at the project level)
  • You need a fair amount of technical knowledge to customize the system via configurations
Planview AdaptiveWork has been a great asset for program and portfolio management. This has allowed us to consolidate multiple project management systems (Airtable, Smartsheet, Trello, etc.) into a centralized system that supports project management, as well as provides program and portfolio management insights. The roll-up views for resources, roadmaps, and programs has helped us share the data that matters most to leadership, without overwhelming them with details or us spending hours manually creating reports. If you just need a project management system, Planview AdaptiveWork probably has too many bells and whistles. It's really a powerhouse to roll-up data and is customizable fit your unique governance, framework, etc. However, if you just need basic project management, it's probably too much.

We use Planview AdaptiveWork for all of our Professional Services functions (Project Management, Project Execution, Capacity Planning, Reporting, etc.). We use Planview AdaptiveWork to manage our Professional Services software deployment projects. We build standardized project plans and milestones to manage the deployment and time tracking. We also use reporting features to track monthly financials and other custom business metrics.
  • Project Plan standardization
  • Timesheet entry and tracking
  • Customized actions to simplify and ensure compliance
  • Report building
  • Resource Planning (always a difficult and complex topic)
The tool is pretty intuitive and relatively easy to and navigate. We have setup a process where a "won" project in SalesForce creates a base project in Planview AdaptiveWork and then sends notifications that a new project has arrived. We then apply the appropriate template to match SKUs that has been sold and assign project resources. From there the project manager uses Planview AdaptiveWork daily to track project progress and enter status information. Ultimately financial milestones are tracked and processed, leading to project completion

The application is used as our enterprise project and portfolio management solution. All projects and programs are managed within the application. All technology resources use the application for time entry and tracking. Our methodology controls are built into the application workplan templates.

To ensure projects adhere to our defined methodology and deliver according to our internal policies, we have integrated the methodolgy into our workplans.

We are a large organization that requires management of multiple teams and multiple projects n a single platform so all management teams are aware of the resources being allocated in the most efficient way. We require a central dashboard that would give all managers or higher level directors visibility on the organization's projects and tracking and any roadblocks that are being forseen.
  • project management
  • resource allocation
  • Dashboard visualization

Planview AdaptiveWork is more complicated that a regular project management software.
