Teradata review
- Layout of anaytics easy to read and digest the information
It does what it says on the tin
- Manages significant datasets even with joins
- Manages workloads well
- Stores deep history if required
- String manipulation
Teradata Vantage
- Running concurrennt queries
- Running complex queries in a timely manner
- Provides a secure environment to host our data
- Timely data synchronisation to a DR environment
Teradata Vantage in the Cloud
- Performance is good
- Cloud instance doesn't need much management
- Integrates well with our tools
- Managed backups could be better. Triggered scheduling, and being able to back up different areas of data at different times would be great.
- The clearscape interface should be provided as an option in the cloud on an application node in the same instance as the database
- Add better ability to use timestamps - functions to add dates and times to get a timestamp, convert timestamp(6) to timestamp(0) easily, etc.
It works less well with unstructured data. It is best to split this out into more structured tables where possible.
Vantage Advantage
1) Data Warehouse - That provides analytics, internal and external regulatory reporting. Data aggregation for further processing on other internal systems. Scoring for credit decisioning
2) Data Marts - stand alone data for specific reporting areas.
3) Customer Marketing - Both real time and offline. Also for fraud avoidance.

Teradata THE SUPERDATA PACK
- Enhances the data touch points
- Expands the data usability with the periphery
- Data transfer speed gets magnified
- Teradata is already a gem of software
- However teradata could incorporate antivirus to ensure any malfunction could be avoided
- Teradata modules could be enhanced
Some regulation reports, which sweep different sources and generate XML outputs come from Teradata Vantage.
History data from source systems are kept in Teradata Vantage for a longer period of time. After that, Teradata Vantage NOS (Native Object Store) sends old data to S3 Parquet files to be stored as archived data.
- ETL (Extract - Transfor - Load)
- NOS to send data from Teradata Vantage to S3 and from S3 to Teradata Vantage
- Teradata GeoSpacial feature
- Bulk reading and writing in huge tables
- MPP capacity already mature
- Temporal Capacity more mature that other solutions
- TASM
- Unity (CDC needs a lot of improvement)
- Ecosystem
- Procedure programming language (very poor)
- Functions programming language (very poor)
- Space management needs improvement
- BAR should be part of main solution and not an "extra" feature (as Oracle)
- Native data masking feature (Oracle has "data redaction")
- Teradata Vantage should have "Synonym" feature
Fast to load high amounts of data
- Data can be loaded quickly
- It allows to load big quantities of data
- It can be used with different products
- It uses SQL language
- Some functions are limited, for example pivot
- It can improve data types or allow bigger sizes, example JSON data type should be bigger
It is well suited for managing large quantities of data and extracting data fast
Teradata Vantage highly recommended
- Large volumes of data
- It is a very safe system
- Very fast queries that give answers to the business
- When making a full backup, do not block the database
- Teradata is very good at handling tables with millions of records thanks to its distribution of the data in AMP handling the defined primary index.
- Through its TTU the loading of the data is very fast, loads 54 million records to a table in less than 1 minute
- It is very secure database

Teradata Vantage - experience on cloud
- Very efficient workload management
- Can cover different workload - complex queries, tactical queries, data processing
- GUI of tools - looks obsolete, in my opinion.
- It was easy extracting data.
- Allows multiple data manipulation.
- Integrating other Cloud systems is easy.
- Creating analytics from the imported multiple data challenges many new users.
- Not an easy task to collect multiple insights.
- Some advanced functionalities requires a professional operator.
- aggregation
- dates
- window functions
- fast response
- CPU exception time error can sometimes causes a right query to fail so increasing that could be helpful.
Teradata: great for data storage
- Stores large amount of data.
- The syntax used is easy to learn.
- Makes it easy to import and export your own data.
- Sometimes it isn’t clear the reason an error will occur in the query. More detailed responses would be helpful
- It can be slow at times when pulling large data amounts
- Sometimes spool space will run out when trying to run certain queries
Best analytical database
- Teradata is a MPP system and its capabilities allow [us] to process a huge amount of data with great performance since it works by the concept of nodes (amps), being scalable and offering great reliability about data recovering, massive processing managing, data backup, etc.
- Teradata Vantage integrates Python, R and other tools that allow [us] to work and develop complex Data Science wise processes.
- Teradata is extremely efficient and it has lot of utilities to support extraction from different source systems.
- Support for geospatial data could be better.
- Quite expensive compared to other products out there on the market.
Powerhouse for Data Warehousing and Analysis
- Teradata database is based on Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) architecture. Because of this architecture, Teradata is able to share the workload evenly across all the system. It splits the work equally to its processes and each process runs in parallel to achieve the result in quickest possible time.
- The underlying work is done by Teradata nodes, Access Module Processors (AMPs) and the disks associated with AMPs. The beauty is that none of them share any resources which means they all work independently and achieve actual parallel processing with the fastest results. The each AMP shares the same amount of work so that no resource stays idle and the output can be quicker.
- Another excellent feature of Teradata is the Connectivity portion. It can so easily connect to almost all the major systems like Mainframes, Oracle DB or IBM DB2. The import of loads is super fast and efficient.
- It is also really helpful when you have to troubleshoot an error because it provides great diagnostic information and therefore saves you a lot of time and effort by not having to go through all the logs manually and find the error and cause for it.
- Teradata is an excellent option but only for a massive amount of data warehousing or analysis. If your data is not that big then it could be a misfit for your company and cost you a lot. The cost associated is quite extensive as compared to some other alternative RDBMS systems available in the market.
- Migration of data from Teradata to some other RDBMS systems is quite painful as the transition is not that smooth and you need to follow many steps and even if one of them fails. You need to start from the beginning almost.
- Last but not least the UI is pretty outdated and needs a revamp. Though it is simple, it needs to be presented in a much better way and more advanced options need to bee presented on the front page itself.
