Great product to connect teleworkers to a safe and secured network. The versatility with dual uplink features, utilizing a SIM Card and the existing WAN connection, is a great way to ensure consistent connectivity for remote workers. If you prefer to connect via cable - you got it. If you prefer to connect via WiFi for more flexibility - you got it. Everything is managed and monitored via a single Management Dashboard.
  • Easy setup for remote worker
  • Versatility with WiFi and cable connections
  • Safe to outages with dual wan setup
  • No roaming between MR Access Points and Z3
  • No 5G connectivity (already fixed by Z4)
Like it's name suggests, the Cisco Meraki Z3 Teleworker is well suited for remote or teleworkers. It simplifies connecting remote workers in a secure way to internal networks via Meraki SD-WAN capabilities with great versatility for both, remote workers and administrators. Wireless and cable connections make it perfect for remote workers and the central dashboard with its possibilites for simple setup are pros for the Cisco Meraki Z3 Teleworker.
  • Secure connection for remote users
  • Less connection troubles for remote workers
The product is very scalable due to its implementation to the Meraki cloud and SD-WAN capabilities.

The Cisco Meraki Z3 Teleworker allows you to extend your network to the home office. It makes it easier to control and understand the networking experience of critical employees. Allows for an "always on" experience that makes PC management easier. You can deploy handsets and other components in order to mirror an "in office" type of user experience.
  • Provide visibility into user home network.
  • "Always on" type of network experience without VPN.
  • Managed and provisioned through the Cisco Meraki dashboard.
  • Certain functions are not available from command line.
  • Pricing could be lower.
  • Availability varied through the covid pandemic.
The Cisco Meraki Z3 Teleworker appliance was ideal for scenarios where the remote worker spent the majority of their time remote. It alleviates the need for VPN software and gives the IT staff additional visibility into the connectivity of the user. We often encountered scenarios where the users broadband was having issues vs the Meraki network and the tools Meraki provides help to work through these scenarios. The case for the Meraki devices is not as strong for occasional users who cannot justify the cost of the appliance vs just logging in via VPN.
  • Simplified remote network access experience for remote users. No VPN authentication is needed.
  • Additional tools for IT staff to view connectivity from the remote users side.
  • Reduced time to resolve issues for IT staff and the users they support.
Your ability to scale is limited by your ability to pay for additional access points. Again the solution works best for remote or mostly remote users so that they don't have to deal with the everyday experience of the VPN. Allows you more visibility into remote users local networks which depending on security config, may be of value.
At the time of implementation, we were not aware of a comparable product from Cisco or comparative vendor. We had initially deployed the Z1 appliance and had so much success that the transition to the Cisco Meraki Z3 Teleworker was a quick and easy fit for us. The device is easy to deploy and just works.

As you know there are a lot of challenges that you need to solve when you have a teleworker. Some of them are: 1.- Zero onsite IT Support 2.- No access to VoIP Telephony (you need VPN) 3.- SaaS Application Performance I would say Cisco Meraki Z3 Teleworker solved these Challenges and others.
  • Zero Touch Provisioning
  • VPN Device
  • Gateway Device
  • Firewall capabilities
  • When Internet is lost and come back we need to reset the Z3 device from the dashboard in order to register the IP Phone to CUCM
  • It would be nice to manage the Z3 device to a local web portal just for TS
  • Max Speed 100Mbps. It would be nice if it could run up to 1GB
Cisco Meraki Z3 Teleworker can be used as Gateway/VPN or Firewall.
  • Good visibility for IT team so we can monitor and validate the teleworker traffic
  • Zero Touch Provisioning so we do not need to send a Engineer to configure it.
  • Consumer-grade network security
Cisco Meraki Z3 Teleworker acts not just as a gateway but also as a VPN and Firewall. The performance is great and it solves a lot of situations, that I mentioned before. I highly recommend buying and trying it.
  • Cisco 800 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR 800) and Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR 4000)
With Cisco 800 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR 800) you can establish VPN connections and maybe integrate the IP Phone to your CUCM; however, you need an expert in place; you need to configure it with tunnels GRE or VPNs for example; you also need to configure other VPN devices on the main site. With Cisco Meraki Z3 Teleworker you just connect it to the Internet and make some easy configuration from the Meraki Dashboard and are ready.
