What is System On Grid?

System On Grid is a cloud infrastructure solution that combines Virtual Private Servers (VPS) with web hosting to deliver dedicated and scalable resources, enhanced security, isolation, and automation. According to the vendor, System On Grid aims to redefine the internet by offering high reliability with a 99.99% uptime guarantee. This versatile solution is designed to cater to businesses of all sizes, from individuals and startups to code shops, design studios, and corporate companies. It is commonly used by web developers, software engineers, IT professionals, digital agencies, and e-commerce companies, providing them with the necessary tools for success in their respective industries.

Key Features

Compute VPS: Orbits are Virtual Instances (VPS) that run on the KVM hypervisor, supporting various operating systems such as CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Free BSD, and Net BSD. With root access and the ability to scale up resources on the fly, users have complete control and flexibility over their hosted applications.

SSD Block Storage: According to the vendor, all Orbits utilize SSD block storage for the root partition, ensuring minimal downtime in case of hardware failure. With 3X replication, data is protected from hardware failures. Users can also take snapshots and backups to safeguard against software failures and data corruption. Additional block storage volumes can be easily added and resized as needed.

Snapshots and Backups: Users can take snapshots to archive the machine state and clone Orbits for future use. Complete backups can also be created for added security. Combined with the block storage's protection against hardware failures, snapshots and backups provide comprehensive data protection.

Photons: Photons are one-click applications that can be quickly installed in Orbits, covering a wide range of applications and stacks, including popular CMS, containers, databases, dev stacks, and platforms. According to the vendor, setting up applications becomes easier with minimal configuration. The Photon library is constantly expanding with more options.

Security: System On Grid offers multiple security features, including 2-factor authentication to mitigate identity theft risks. Orbits come with firewall features that allow users to create custom firewall rules for added security. The network team conducts 24x7 surveillance to detect and mitigate any DDoS attacks. SSL certificates from Let's Encrypt are provided for free, ensuring secure communication.

Performance Graphs: Orbits come in various specs and flavors, providing flexibility in resource allocation. The backend infrastructure utilizes Intel E-5 processors, KVM hypervisor, and Openstack for high performance. Performance graphs offer historical data on key parameters like CPU, memory, and network utilization, aiding in capacity planning and resource optimization.

Private Networking: Orbits can be created with multiple Virtual Network Interface Cards (vNICs), allowing for private and public IP assignment. Up to 5 independent vNICs per Orbit can be assigned, each with private and public IPs. This enables the use of private IPs for clustering services or as a private subnet.

Floating IP: Orbits come with 2 VNICs by default, with VNIC1 having a public IP and VNIC2 having a private IP. VNIC2 can be assigned a floating IP, providing the advantage of a public IP. Floating IPs can be assigned to any VNIC2 of any Orbit on demand, offering flexibility in IP management.

Automation: The REST-based API allows for task automation and integration into applications. With support for JSON requests and replies, the API is easily accessible and usable. The Quantum dashboard enables scheduled tasks in individual Orbits, enhancing automation capabilities.

Load Balancer: The load balancer supports IP/TCP/HTTP and HTTPS-based load balancing. Multiple load balancing algorithms are supported, including SSL offloading. Monitoring based on IP, TCP, HTTP, and HTTPS ensures optimal load balancing. The load balancer is capable of handling high throughput and efficiently managing traffic.
