We use IBM watsonx.data in conjunction with watsonx.ai mainly to create demos and proof-of-concpets (PoC) of generative AI applications. In our case we mainly use Milvus, the vector database implemented in IBM watsonx.data.
  • Seamless integration between vector data and the AI engines
  • Pretty good search performance even on large data sets
  • Good cost performance/cost optimization overall
  • The UI can be slow to respond at times (just like many cloud services thought)
  • Semantic automation is still in beta and has no Japanese support yet
  • Loading data to the platform can be slow at times
Obviously IBM watsonx.data has been designed to work well with other watson products (mainly watsonx.ai), so it makes sense to use it as a vector database for watson.ai.
The semantic automation feature is promising, but I think it is not ready yet for a large scale rollout so I would recommend using it only for demos/proof of concepts.
  • Speed up and reduce the cost of building vector databases for generative AI applications
  • Helps training engineers on latest AI technologies
Pinecone and IBM watsonx.data (Milvus in our case) both work great as a full-managed cloud-based vector database.
We selected IBM watsonx.data because it integrates well with watson.ai and is a little more beginner friendly than Pinecone, but I think both are great anyway.

I used to control wealth management analysts and automate the searches through bundle of documents and public data and this tool helped me to get the meaningful insights. It helps to easy data access for analysis, user experience by enhancing cloud based analytics and AI capabilities, resource utilization and data modernization which can lead to more agile and effective data management practices.
  • deployment foundation
  • Machine learning models like Scale AI
  • Data governance
  • Too expensive so reduce the price
  • Provide room for Asset management
  • everyone know about licenses, its too expensive so reduce the prices
  • Integrations are not flexible and not easy to use
As I mentioned well suited for many scenarios whenever I work to fetch the reports, helps effortlessly reach and examine the widespread data, making the most of our resources to provide more better UI experience. You can use more of the AI features and provide easy integration options to connect with different systems.
  • AI stuff helped
May be I cannot say why I choose, business preferred to use IBM watsonx.data which is good for me as well to learn. I cannot compare this tool with others because it has unique feature which Alteryx or Amazon or Azure dont have. So this tool is going good for us.
