Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

In our company of ~2500 users, we use Microsoft Defender for Office 365 on a daily basis, or rather, every minute of the working day. This ranges from monitoring Microsoft Defender for Office 365 for Identity sensors and alerts, to managing blocked/allowed senders, removing email threats that got delivered to users, isolating high-risk devices, releasing emails from quarantine, and much more. Microsoft Defender for Office 365 also gives us insights of vulnerable software within our environment on servers and normal workstations, missing KB' for various CVE's, Alerts for suspicious activity or applications, as well as recommendations and possible solutions for other vulnerabilities found within our network. It integrates nicely with the rest of our domain applications, and we have automated sentinel alerts which triggers for various types of events that one needs to monitor. We have recently implemented MDI which is part of the offerings, and found it to be very useful in terms of monitoring logs and events, and sending alerts to the list of people specified in order for action to be taken. Features that are also very important include Company Secure Score, and exposure score, which provides you with detailed stats and analysis to see trends and do reporting on using PowerBI.
  • Device status monitoring
  • Reporting
  • Vulnerability management
  • User activity monitoring
  • Threat monitoring
  • Threat alerts
  • Improvements can be done on the dashboard side, where certain simple features aren't available
  • Even though date settings are configured correctly, I would occasionally still find a 2 hour difference between event times (actual local and event time on the dashboard)
  • Another annoyance is where in some cases, actions can only be performed on 100 items at a time, causing huge frustration when there are thousands of items.
  • One of the main issue, not just related to Microsoft Defender for Office 365, but all Microsoft products, is that they will make changes in the back-end without notifying us as customers, which in the past has caused things to stop working, only to later find out that Microsoft made changes on their side.
Microsoft Defender for Office 365 is found to be well suited for our size company, and easily for smaller or larger companies as well. It does have a few places where improvements can be made, but at least it also asks you to provide feedback to Microsoft, which I have done with certain suggestions or complaints. However, overall it is a very thorough and useful tool when it comes to securing and defending yourself against trending threats.

We use the product to provide solution for business and for the end user of different departments. And the scope, it's going to depend which projects we are using that solution. And for some user and also for some countries because we are globally company.
  • I mean, Microsoft is a good tool. It's a good and helpful solution, and we leverage on all of their capabilities, I would say.
  • Well, we need to be integrated with other system because it doesn't have all the functionalities that we will like for the application or the tool. But yeah, it's okay because no one solution have everything not there.

I think the point of the product was to help our bank make sure that their data was protected. So setting up all the categorization, setting up all the rules, setting up the detection and ensuring that no data from the company leaked out from the bank.
  • I think what I was really impressed by was the fact that the same protection was in the cloud as on my desktop. I think the fact that it was super easy to configure and the fact that as a managing the deployment and the team, the customer did not complain at all. It just went smoothly. I'm like, yes!
  • I think it needs to be tuned correctly. For example, afterwards I tried to go in and print once after the implementation was done, I went in and tried to print a file or export a document. Just not possible, which just means it's great, works really well, but it also means that you have to tune your data categorization very carefully.
I think in everybody using Office 365 using Azure makes a lot of sense. It's a no-brainer.

It's more like a backend passive tool in the way we use it on top of our own tool, so it's a nice multi-pronged approach. Again, this is for protecting our inbox and everything.
  • Generally, I see our product act on a bit first and before that, so that probably wouldn't be the best detail I could give, unfortunately.
  • No cons to really come up with.
It's well suited for people who need a one stopgap solution or need to stay in the Microsoft family. That's probably the most appropriate option; less appropriate is if you're on a tight budget, maybe, and you're like a smaller startup.

The scope is across all employees. We have a lot of BYOD devices, so bring your own devices is really the main use cases. Lots of remote offices, lots of home offices, so we use the vendor to secure all those devices that are connected to our network.
  • Deployment's really effective so we can get into our device as well. And generally it protects us from, I guess malware and viruses is the main thing. So I wouldn't put defenders. Sometimes we have trouble with email, but that's not really a vendor issue.
  • Probably functionality might be, cloud apps might be helpful if it could extend to applications that we're getting data from that aren't necessarily part of our environment or pulling data into our environment. So I guess that would be one thing.
It's well suited for our physical deployment of remote people and sort of a SaaS company. It exists in cyberspace, so that's really very constructive. Where it's not, these sort of very specific data sets and sort of identity protection for customers, it's not as useful and it may not be one of its core purposes, but we're trying to use it for that as well.

For authentication purposes, if there are any, we have contractors as well in our company. So we have limited exercise, so we have a certain area that only an assigned person can go into that area. Only for that access to the libraries we use this application.
  • It's authenticated, right? So without your approval it'll not go and without its acceptance you cannot enter. So it's both way, it's very secure.
  • I haven't experienced like that. It is very user friendly.
So when, for example, if I change the device, then you have to set up everything right? Sometimes it's difficult to recover your data. Sometimes if you don't know your ID, you have to go to the admin person. You cannot do it by yourself. You have to go to the MSP person.

I would implement this product for other organizations. I would solve their problems by presenting which solution Microsoft offers that would be the best for their organization. My scope would be small businesses.
  • This product is good with implementing and collaborating with other applications.
  • This product could be a bit easier to implement when there are problems. If you don't have specific Microsoft training, you will run into issues.
This product suits small businesses, large organizations, and SEG L users. It would not be appropriate if you would like to use just one in-house software because, again, if you're not familiar with Microsoft, it won't; you can't integrate it that well.
